Still in the Race?

Monday Morning Coffee©

Happy Monday people!

Most of us would have watched the homecoming ceremonies for renowned evangelist Billy Graham at the weekend, I am certain it would have generated a mixture of emotions.

Funerals have a way of confronting us with our own mortality. For me it was a sober reflection of how I was running my own race!

What a homecoming! I couldn’t help but imagine the millions of angels welcoming Billy Graham into God’s presence.

Billy Graham fought the good fight and finished his race. We are running our life’s race right now, one day our race too will end, what will be written on our scoreboards? What kind of homecoming will we have?

We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, so let us throw off all that hinders and the sin that easily entangles, and run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1)

The baton has now passed to us!….Let us run to win!

Are you still in the race?

Good morning.

The Dream Team!

Happy Monday people!

I watched basket ball player Paul Pierce get his No. 34 jersey retired by the Boston Celtics a fortnight ago.

Paul paid an extremely emotional tribute to his mother, who singlehandedly raised him and four brothers in the deprived crime- ridden neighbourhood of Oakland, California.

Among the many tributes, Paul did forget an uncle who had erected a makeshift basket ball hoop in his backyard when it became too dangerous to go out for practice; this was where Paul’s basket ball dream was birthed!

Paul said “People see the finished product.. People never see the behind-the-scenes journey and the people who influenced it.”

Today spare a thought for those who have impacted your own life, including those who put the obstacles in your way and inadvertently pushed you in the direction of your dreams. They are all part of your dream team.

Even Joseph too was sent to Egypt for a specific time and purpose Genesis 50:20

You too could be part of someone’s success story; perhaps mine!

….Don’t be a dream killer!

Good Morning.

The Breakthrough!

Monday Morning Coffee©

Happy Monday people!

My post today is inspired by recent events in the life of one of the most ambitious and restless young men I know.

On what was a normal ‘boring’ day, Tizzy took a train to meet up with friends in London, sitting next to him was a man with a huge rucksack, a mixing deck bulging out from the top of it caught Tizzy’s attention and he started a conversation. Now this total stranger also took an unusual interest in Tizzy and things just seemed to snowball out of control from then on; three weeks later Tizzy is now hosting his very own show on one of the foremost UK radio stations!

Now Ruth the Moabite also left home on a normal morning in search of food, and just ‘happened’ to step into the field belonging to Boaz…..We know the rest of the story! (Ruth 2:3)

Opportunities abound all around, so embrace this mundane Monday morning with renewed zeal and expectation; open your eyes and ears.

The breakthrough you seek is not too far away!….Perhaps even on a crowded, smelly London Underground train!

Good morning.

Risky Business!

Monday Morning Coffee ©

Happy Monday people!

What risks will you be taking this week?

Risk-taking is the hallmark of any successful individual; without risk there is no reward!

Today many Christians are playing it safe, enjoying the miracles, the glamour and the limelight but unwilling to get their hands dirty.

God did not give us abilities, resources, and influence so that we sit in the church pew as pretty spectators

Serving God is risky business. It could cost us our friendships, comfort and lifestyles, but if we don’t take the risks, we miss out on seeing God at work in the lives of others.

Remember, Peter was fishing in shallow waters, while his breakthrough was in the ocean. He caught nothing until he pushed out further into the deep.

Take the risk! ….Leave the shore! ….Go deeper!

Good morning.

Time to Declutter

Monday Morning Coffee ©

Happy Monday People!

Today as you sip your hot morning coffee, make up a mental list of the things clogging up the space in your home.

When we were moving house three years ago, we agreed not to carry any clutter with us to the new house! We donated unwanted clothes and furniture to the local charity, but I still kept some items hoping to use them in the new house.

Three years later, we still have unopened boxes in the garage, worse still we have added even more clutter!

On reflection, it’s the same way we tend to cling to old habits, hurtful memories and difficult relationships, dragging them along with us into our future!

Can you imagine what freedom we will experience if we rid our lives of all the controllers, users and time wasters?

It’s time to shed the dead weight of those issues that continue to plague us.

If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things have passed away; new things have come. 2Corinthians 5:17

It’s time to declutter!…..I am getting a skip!

Good morning.

The Furnace Club

Monday Morning Coffee ©

Happy Monday people!

How are you rolling with the punches that life has thrown at you?

Yesterday I was privileged to speak to a certain gentleman who recounted how difficult life had been for him in the last couple of years, this man had been duped of a large sum of money, he lost his business, his home and almost lost his family. Of course all his friends had deserted him!

Remarkably he told me these had been the best years of his life, because he had come to know God so intimately, and he wouldn’t have traded this for anything.

Without a doubt this man had qualified to be a privileged member of The Furnace Club!

Yes! God will never take us around the furnace, but will lead us right through it to the other side.

There is always a ‘fourth’ man in the fiery furnace!….Look out for him!

What’s your own furnace club story?

Good morning.

Inspiration from the Ark

Monday Morning Coffee©

Happy Monday people!

Last week I connected with my classmates from medical school on our WhatsApp group. It was exciting to see how much progress we had all made on different levels decades after graduation.

I was reminded of the story of Noah’s Ark, one of hope and inspiration.

The animals marched into the ark in pairs. The elephants strutted in taking up their prestigious positions, followed by the other animal pairs, then finally came the snails, the slowest of animals majestically dragging their slimy bodies up the gangway into the ark.

Guess what? Everyone had to wait until the snails made it in before the door of the ark could be shut!

Back to my classmates, we all went off to different parts of the world, and have all been through stuff! But we all made it in the end!

Remember, the race is not over until the last runner crosses the finish line!

Good morning.
